GPS Structure
Play leaders, Advocating play & Community engagement are the primary components of GPS
Play Leaders
The Play Leaders are young women, recruited from the local community. They are trained in play-based pedagogy, whereby their leadership skills are strengthened, and they become advocates for the play based learning.
Advocating Play
Play Lab model is being tested in the government schools as part of the pre-primary education for children aged 4-5. This philosophy has been disseminated through training of pre-primary teachers of GPS, orientation sessions, meetings with SMC, seminars etc.
Community Engagement
Play Labs engage parents, caregivers, and community members to decorate learning spaces and help to create low-cost, contextually appropriate, recyclable play materials. The community engagement through play lab created a path for pre-primary preparedness within the community.
Play As A Tool
a source of joyful, explorative, and interactive experiences that promote the development of cognitive, physical, motor, and socio-emotional skills in childhood and beyond. This idea is central to our work in child development. To develop play materials BRAC IED organized materials workshop with the parents and guardians of play lab students. Quarterly Material Development Workshop and monthly Parents Meetings ensured children’s presence in the play lab regularly.
Objective
We seek to change the educational status quo by developing scalable play-based models, building the evidence based on model outcomes, advocating for the importance of play in education, and building capacity among our domestic and international partners. Our low-cost, scalable Play Model series for ages 0-5 has been implemented in over 1,000 centers across the country, and we are widely recognized as a leader in the emerging area of early childhood development (ECD) in Bangladesh.
